'modern baroque' powder room - in progress

there are many projects at home all going on at the same time...the powder room is the main one right now.

like other aspects in my life, the process of a project is not linear...there is always a beginning, not necessarily an end, and definitely not a straight line of decisions in between.  design (or at least 'thoughtful' design) is simply not linear (maybe more on that later).

i started thinking about updating the powder bathroom in my townhouse two years ago. when i pondered it, i knew one thing: it was an opportunity to explore something really different from the rest of my home and it was an opportunity for me to stretch my more 'minimalist' design philosophy.

in describing this room, i would say it is about 're-referencing' and 're-experiencing' traditional references through a modern lens. i suppose we could walk down a theoretical path here (maybe more on that later). what i want to share at this point is the what resulted from these explorations and what i see are the dynamic energies in the space as a result.

so the 'near end' of this project coincides with the beginning of this blog. here are some highlights of decisions made and decisions in the making. and of course, more to follow.....

sink vanity

a very curvaceous bombe chest with custom mixed 'pewter' metallic paint
white ceramic vessel sink
a very straight vessel faucet in antique bronze

inspiration piece - i love this chandelier!

this piece is a sprint point for many topics of conversation:
you see it, but you don't
it's has three dimensions, but it's flat
it has candles, but that's not the light source
on, and on, and on......

you can see that the stencil pattern of chandeliers has made it half way up the wall in the background.
the plans are to take it all the way up to the ceiling

stencil-ed wall with drapery idea

there is one window in the powder room.
for privacy and because the size of the room is pretty large,
wall to wall sheers covering the window and providing an element of soft, scale is part of the room design.

how does mosquito netting fabric sound - in 'olive'?
it has an unexpected beautiful fall and drape to the fabric.
i'm thinking grommets in antique bronze.

what does the mirror want to be?

i drew it over and over on paper and it just wasn't right.
5 minutes with blue tape and i had my 'ah-ha' moment
definitely looks like a custom order to me....
